

He graduated from Columbus High School in 1956. He went on to study at Wabash College and Indiana University where he met his love, Karen Brooks whom he married on 12/30/62. They were married for 55 years.
John was one of the lucky ones who pursued his passion for film/video/photography and had a successful career for over 50 years as a director, cinematographer and editor which took him all over the world. Film from his work has been donated to the archives of the Kennedy Library in Boston and Indiana/Missouri/California Universities. He also won several Emmy awards and a first place in the New York Film Festival. He was a proud member of several organizations including the San Francisco and Indianapolis Press Clubs, Society of Indiana Pioneers, Sons of the American Revolution, the Indiana Film Commission and the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
He was an avid reader of everything news and was smart as a whip – he could beat everyone at Trivial Pursuit! He loved good movies, traveling and food (especially sushi) which we enjoyed with him many times.
John is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Karen. He is survived by his two daughters, Colleen McGinnis Holtkamp (Kreag) and Kathleen McGinnis (Stuart) and two beloved grandchildren, Kate and Brooks Holtkamp. He is also survived by his loving siblings Barbara Terry (Edmund), Mary Ellen Young and James Henry.
The family has entrusted Crown Hill with the cremation and inurnment of his ashes to be joined with his wife. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends in the spring.
