John Russell Whitaker

80, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 26, 2016.

John was born in Lima, Ohio on June 14, 1935. He attended School 66 in Indianapolis where he first met his future wife, Nancy Olivey. He graduated from Shortridge High School in 1953. He attended Butler University where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Business. John was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserves. John was a Realtor for many years in Indianapolis and Kosciusko County where he specialized in lake properties. He was a wonderful and loving family man. He had varied interests and loved sharing his skills and experiences with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Russell E and Francis M. Whitaker. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Olivey Whitaker. Children - Lynn Jones (John), J David Whitaker, Mary Mikalouski (Vernon) as well as his brother, James G Whitaker (Linda). He is also Survived by his grandchildren David Whitaker, Martin, Reed (Genevieve), Allison (Michael) and William Jones, Joseph and Laurel Mikalouski along with 10 great grandchildren.

Calling will be from 4-8pm on Thursday, March 3 with services at 11am on Friday, March 4 at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN.
