

Johnnie Mae was born to R.L. Johnson and Ruthie Mae Massey Johnson on August 28, 1957. Early in life she became affectionately known as “Jay” to her family and friends.
She married Jerry Wiley on February 14, 1991 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She began her education in the Indianapolis Public School System. She left Indianapolis when God revealed her new life in a vivid dream. In that dream she saw her new home in Kansas City, Missouri. Upon moving to Kansas City she attended Job Corps. Graduating from Job Corps led to a job at General Motors. She worked for General Motors for 14 years until the plant shut down. That is also where she met her best friends Carolyn Webb and Leola “Alice” Crockett. She then moved to New York City where she worked for General Motors for another 2 years. Johnnie moved back to Kansas City until she received a phone call from her sister Ernestine asking her to come home and help with her various black owned businesses around the Indianapolis area. She spent the next 15 years managing those businesses. Meanwhile her elderly parents became ill. Johnnie Mae became the caregiver for her parents. She took care of them with the utmost dignity and respect. She kept them in the family home they loved on 16th Street and New Jersey until they passed away.
Johnnie Mae had a heart of gold. She was a cheerful giver giving to many charities and ministries around the world. She never missed a family member or friend’s birthday. You were guaranteed a great gift from her.
Johnnie Mae confessed her life to Jesus Christ at an early age. She attended Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. Johnnie Mae loved the Lord and expressed that every chance she got.
Johnnie Mae was a loving wife, stepmother to her four stepchildren, sister, auntie, and friend. Johnnie Mae will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Johnnie Mae is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Wiley, parents R.L.Johnson and Ruthie Mae Massey Johnson, her brother Ernest A. Johnson, sisters Thelma Ernestine McGill, Elaine Johnson McGill and Ruth Ann Ford.
Johnnie Mae is survived by her brothers, Henry “Hank” Johnson, Marvin (Delores) Johnson Sr., Fenton “Flint” (Blanch) Johnson, Dexter (Cheryl) Johnson, nephews John McGill, Reggie McGill, Tony Allen (Venus) Edmonds, Marvin A. (Punchy) Johnson, nieces Marsha (John) Sanders, Tanyeka Johnson, Helen Johnson JR., Tamika Johnson, De'Asia Johnson, Lashonda Johnson Brownie, and a host of other nieces nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
