Jonathan Martin Lawrence

Jon was a proud graduate of Cathedral High School, Class of 1964, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Purdue University in 1969. While at Purdue, he was an active member of the Theta Chi fraternity where he formed friendships and a sense of brotherhood that remained meaningful throughout his life.

Known as “Johnny” to many of his lifelong friends, Jon is survived by his son, Jason Lawrence; daughter, Katherine (Steven) Hogg; and four beloved grandchildren, Liam Lawrence (13), Brooks Hogg (12), Maddux Hogg (9), and Reece Hogg (6). He is also survived by his brother, Michael Lawrence, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Linda Lawrence; his brother, William Lawrence; and his parents.

Jon spent his entire career with Naval Avionics, which later became Raytheon. Beginning as an intern and eventually becoming an Engineering Manager, he was tremendously proud of his work and of the fact that he spent his entire professional career with the same organization. He retired in July 2004 and spent his retirement enjoying family, friends, and traveling between Indianapolis and Florida.

Jon’s life was about far more than his career. He had an incredible enthusiasm for life, loved sports, competition, laughter, and being surrounded by the people he loved. He never met a stranger and could take a joke just as easily as he could give one.

Some of Jon’s greatest memories were made with his lifelong group of friends from St. Joan of Arc and Cathedral, affectionately known as the “Fisher Farts.” Their friendship spanned decades and countless adventures, from college rivalries and road trips to their annual reunion surrounding the Indianapolis 500. Those traditions were eventually passed down to their children, nephews, grandchildren, and friends, creating memories that will continue for generations.

Above all, Jon cherished his family and friends. He shared 52 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Linda, and following her death in 2022 he carried her memory with him always. His family takes comfort in knowing they are together again.

If you had the opportunity to meet Jon, you were fortunate. If you had the opportunity to truly know him, you were better for it.

We love you, Jon. Tell Linda we all miss her, and we are at peace knowing the two of you are together again.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jon’s memory to the Purdue Scholarship Fund or to Cathedral High School toward a grant or the planting of a memorial tree.

A visitation for Jon will be held Monday, August 31, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 E. 71st St., Indianapolis, IN 46220.

A viewing will also be held at Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 1st, at 10:00 a.m. prior to the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.
