

Joe Cutrell, age 74, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away September 18, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital with family and friends at his bedside. Joe lost his battle with cancer, despite exceptional care by St. Vincent doctors and staff.
After growing up mostly in Indianapolis, Joe graduated Plainfield High School, and after attending Herron Art School, utilized his design skills at Lyman Brothers. Later Joe worked at Indianapolis Life (1976-1978), Tolley Life (1978-1982), John Hancock Life (1982-2003) and Health Systems International (2003-2009), retiring in his early 60s as an Insurance Claims Specialist.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother Kathleen (Hardy) Cutrell, his father Marion Cutrell, his sister Jeanne (Cutrell) Gove, three nieces and several other Hardy and Cutrell family members.
Joe is survived by his beloved husband Tim Dunigan and family, his best friend Mark Akard, Cindra and Robert Meier and family, Debra Murray and family, several other cousins and their families and a multitude of long-time friends.
Joe is known by his family and friends for his decades-long devotion to his husband Tim, his selfless care-giving of his mother Kathleen and his rapport with dogs, the latter earning him the name, “Dog Whisperer.”
He is admired for his interior design skills illustrated in his English Country home style, his fashion sense, his unique and extensive range of cars, his gardening, his dramatic storytelling and socializing with friends and family. He is also loved for his wicked sense of humor, infectious laugh and incomparable bear hugs.
Arrangements for a memorial service will be forthcoming to family and friends. Joe’s final resting place will be with his mother in Plainfield, IN.
