Joseph Paul Lawrance, 32, of Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly on October 30, 2017. Joe was a loving son and brother and an adoring uncle. He was a gifted and prolific artist in many mediums. Joe is survived by his parents, Mark and Jan Lawrance, sisters Erin (John) Salewicz and Devin (Jason) Mandel, nephews and nieces Theo, Arie & Nora Salewicz and Lewis & Elaine Mandel. He was preceded in death by his identical twin brother, Will. Joe graduated from North Central High School in 2003 and earned a Bachelor of Architecture from The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union in New York City's East Village. Joe was employed as an architect by Browning, Day, Mullins, Dierdorf. Joe won numerous awards for his paintings, drawings, mixed media works, portfolio and sculptures including the Marion County Prelude Award; the Project XL Competition in 2002, 2003; the Julia Carson Congressional Art Award, several Gold and Silver Keys and American Vision Award in the Scholastic Arts Competition in the visual arts category. His art has been displayed in several locations in Indianapolis and at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and in the halls of the US Senate. Joe was a lover of the arts, especially architecture and surprisingly, old school hip hop music. He was adored for his quick wit, gentle nature, and admired for his vast knowledge of trivial facts. The custom piñatas he crafted for nieces' and nephews' birthday parties will be long remembered. Visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home, Remembrance Hall, November 9, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on November 10, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Crown Hill Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, with a Reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Joe & Will Lawrance Legacy Art Fund at The Advancement Center of Washington Township Schools (www.advancementcenterwts.org).
