Joyce Ann Klingler

A native of Broad Ripple, Indiana, Joyce graduated from Broad Ripple High School, where her exceptional skill in shorthand earned her a position with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Indianapolis immediately following graduation. After four years of dedicated service to the Bureau, she transitioned to a corporate career as the executive secretary to Fred Gates at State Farm Insurance. Her career with State Farm proved vital to the company’s regional expansion and took her from Indianapolis to Newark, Ohio, to establish a new regional office, and later to West Lafayette, Indiana, to open the regional office from which she eventually retired after 47 years of continuous service. Throughout her life, Joyce remained incredibly proud of her FBI beginnings and honorably served her fellow former colleagues as the President of the Indianapolis Chapter of the Society of FBI Alumni for years and remained an active member until the time of her passing.

Joyce possessed an adventurous spirit and a profound love for travel. She traveled extensively, both locally and worldwide to Hawaii, Alaska, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, New Zealand, and Australia. Her favorite local destination was Brown County Indiana. Her favorite international destination was Switzerland. During her final five years, she enjoyed touring the United States in a motorhome and daily drives in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Joyce was a woman of steadfast convictions, deep patriotism, and a strong commitment to civic service. She was a long-time dedicated member of the Pilot Club of Central Indiana, contributing her time to community improvement and friendship. She was a proud member of Professional Secretaries International, and held an enthusiastic allegiance to Purdue University. A devoted fan, she was well-known for greeting with a spirited shout of "GO BOILERS!" any chance that she got.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence. Growing up, she faithfully attended Broadway and Central Baptist churches in Broad Ripple. Later in life, she served as church board secretary and attended Federated Church in West Lafayette. Her devotion to God was expressed continuously through music; she could be found harmonizing to her beloved hymns until the very end of her days.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Vern Klingler and Cora Ann (Cluck) Klingler; her siblings: Norvel Lee Klingler, Bill Klingler, Don Klingler (Marcy), Arlen Klingler (Betty), Janice Klingler (Hollings), and Judy Klingler (Voorhis)(Merrill Voorhis); and her niece, Shirley Klingler. She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Dal Klingler, Dan (Beth Ann) Klingler, Darren Klingler, Cathy Klingler, Cheri (Mike) Mosier, Gary (Penny) Klingler, Lisa (Stuart) Cox, Christine (Jeff) Richards, Michael Hollings, Kevin Voorhis, and Brian Voorhis, as well as many extended family members and dear friends.

A memorial service and interment of ashes will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis on October 5, 2026, at 1pm. The service will be officiated by her lifelong friend, Reverend George Billeison.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Joyce's honor to her favorite charities: Federated Church of West Lafayette, Samaritan’s Purse, the Span Plan at Purdue University, the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the Broad Ripple American Legion Post #3.
