Joyce professed her hope in Christ at an early age at James Street Church of God. She sang in the church choir for most of her life and played the piano for over 50 years. Joyce was a faithful member of Baltimore Street Church Of God. Joyce attended elementary School #37, and Crispus Attucks High School.
On March 13, 1952 Joyce was united in marriage to the late Vernon E. Sweatt for 53 years, that Union blessed them with five children. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her entire family.
She loved her children and grandchildren wholeheartedly and would do anything for them. Joyce lived life to the fullest and loved having fun. She enjoyed bowling and cherished the time she had playing all types of games with her family. One of her personal favorites was Pac-Man. Joyce also enjoyed doing word search puzzles. She absolutely loved the Christmas holiay and the gift exchanges with her family.
Joyce was a homemaker and spent many years as a dedicated and loyal daycare provider. She nurtured many children who loved her dearly. She opened her home to the entire family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon E. Sweatt, her parents, Walter Sr. and Alvertie Grundy, and her sister, Doris Darlene (Grundy) Mitcham.
Joyce is survived by two sons, DeJuian (Alicia), Durand (Tuwanna) and three daughters, Paula (Raymond), Deborah (Creigh Sr), Melvina; Twelve grandchildren, Kamarese (Jimmie), Karsten, Raymond, Dorian, Tiah, Ryan, Creigh Jr (Ebonee), Rashad, Zachary (Chyneal), Brandon, Marissa (Tre), and Ramonte. Plus sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Six sisters, Delores, Freida, Frances, Lois Jean, Wilma, Phyllis, and one brother Walter Jr (Toni); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
