Judy was born in Chicago, Illinois, on Dec. 11, 1947, the oldest of four children of Raymond and Helen Griffin. Judy lived in Chicago until 1971, when she married Brian Hendrickson of Seaside, Oregon, an Army serviceman who had been stationed in Chicago for an educational assignment. Brian returned to the Pacific Northwest shortly after they met, and though they had known each other in person for only a few months, they continued to write each other until their discussions turned to marriage. They were married on Jan. 2, 1971 and moved to Seattle, Washington. Judy's love of children became a focus of her life: She raised three sons, Brian David, Scott Michael and Jeffrey Andrew, earned her associate's degree in early childhood education and taught preschool for more than 40 years before retiring in 2009, when she focused that passion towards her grandchildren.
Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Brian, and is survived by her sons, Brian David and his wife, Carissa; Scott Michael; Jeff Andrew and his wife, Christina; brothers James and Ray Griffin; and her grandchildren Georgeann Courtney, Lachlan Patrick, Emmeline Scotia and Ellia Carolynn.
