In September of 1963 she married Hosea Beverly Sr., and from the union four children were born: Regina Lynn, Renita Louise, Hosea Amos, Jr. (Wints), and Derrick Eugene. Julia was baptized at the age of nine and was involved in church service all her life. In September of 1968 she united with the St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church and remained active until her transition. As a member of St. John’s, she served in the following ministries: Nursery, Young Adult Ushers, Women’s Prison Lifers Program, Love Center and Witnessing Team. Additionally, she served in the following leadership positions: Organizer of the Mother & Daughter banquet, Children’s nursery, Junior Ushers, youth events, Vice President of Women’s ministry, Sunday School teacher and chairperson of the Deaconess. She was a mentor and role model for all youth, especially young girls and young women. Julia’s last employer was the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a Community Compliance Monitor from 1989 until her retirement in 2007. Julia loved to entertain guest in her home and she was known for her abilities as a caterer, event planner, program organizer, and for baking and decorating delicious wedding cakes. Mrs. Julia Mae Beverly departed this life on earth at the age of 75years old on Friday, April 10, 2021, but she will never grow old in heaven. Julia was preceded in death by her 2 children, Regina and Wints, her parents and 3 siblings, Clifford Payne, Charles Payne and Larry (Paula) Payne, and her very special and devoted companion, Emmitt Armour. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Renita Quick (Roosevelt) and Derrick Beverly, brother James E. Payne, three sisters: Virginia Patton, Lillian Payne, Linette Payne-Wilson, three grandsons: Trey, Ryan and Aaron Quick, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time sister friends Shirley Dobbins, Veatrice Smith, Maddie Fishback, Virginia Gilbert, Sherri Moore, and Barbara Evans. She was blessed and loved by many special friends who cared for her during her illness along with continuous prayers by her beloved Pastor Rev. Dr. Phillip Shobe and the St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church Family. All those who knew and loved Julia know that she fought the good fight, she finished her race, and she kept the faith. Now there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give her at that day: and not to her only, but unto all that love his appearing (II Timothy 4:8).
