Obituary of Kathryn Feeney Gaughan   Miller
Kathryn Feeney Gaughan Miller 97, passed away on December 23, 2012 in Indianapolis, IN where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Bill White for 19 years. Born on August 23, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Mayme and Martin T. (Red) Feeney, co-founder of Feeney-Feeney Mortuary (presently Feeney-Hornak) with his double cousin Martin T. (Blackie) Feeney. She graduated from Holy Angels Catholic Grade School in 1929, St. John’s Academy in 1933, Indiana Business College in 1935 and the Indianapolis Police Academy in 1951. She also attended St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1934. Kathryn became a Police Officer for the City of Indianapolis after her husband, James T. (Bud) Gaughan, IPD Detective Sargent was killed in the line of duty in 1951. Kathryn was reportedly the first female Marion County Deputy Sheriff, in 1957 and worked for Sheriff Robert A. O’Neil. She was a Jury Commissioner for Judge Niblack until her retirement in 1975. Kathryn was a volunteer for St. Vincent Hospital for 10 years, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW and the Knights of Columbus 71st and Keystone. Kathryn was preceded in death by her first husband, James Gaughan, a daughter Marianne who passed away in 1948 and her second husband Judge Jacob S. Miller in 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Lou, Maury, Donovan and Harry Feeney. She is survived by son, Patrick J. Gaughan, Seminole, FL; daughter, Kathy White and son-in-law Bill White, Indianapolis. Grandchildren: Stacy Gaughan, Michael Gaughan, Angela White Thomas (Mark), Erin Gaughan Tyler (Andrew), Kimberly White Lough (Brad), Michael White (Glenda). Great Grandchildren: Matthew, Morgan, Mason and Molly Thomas, Ellie, Jacob, Grace and Kathryn Lough, and Skylar Fortner. Funeral services will be Thursday December 27 at 9:30 at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday December 26 from 4 – 7 pm at the mortuary. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.feeneyhornakkeystone.com.
