Kathryn "Kathy" J. Pertler

Kathy was the beloved daughter of Leroy and Louise Smith of Greensburg, IN and she was one of seven siblings. She graduated from South Decatur High School in 1971 and went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Anderson College in 1975, where she also met the love of her life. In 1999, she completed her MBA at Anderson University.

On June 4, 1977, Kathy married Timothy Pertler in Greensburg, Indiana. Together they welcomed their only child, Andrew Steven Pertler, on May 21, 1981. Kathy retired from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in the early 2000’s after a dedicated career. She enjoyed spending her time working on puzzles, sudoku, and solitaire, and was an avid fan of Murder She Wrote and Law & Order. She also found joy in reading Peanuts comics and the works of Agatha Christie.

Kathy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Timothy Pertler, her parents, Leroy and Louise Smith; brother Kenneth; and sister Grace. She is survived in death by her son Andrew (Julia) Pertler; her cherished grandson Gabriel Pertler-Souchet; brother Frank; sisters Evelyn, Mary, and Lois; and grand-puppies, Nash and Shadow.

A visitation for Kathryn "Kathy" will be held Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, with funeral services immediately following.
