
Kathryn was born in Flint Michigan to Frank and Heliene Johnson on February 24, 1949. She attended Grand Blanc High School and Shimer College. She met her life partner and spouse Fred Straine in 1980 in Oak Park Illinois. She earned a MS in Library Science, from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee). She was a librarian for many years and worked in several specialty areas including a Medical Library. She received several recognition awards for her library services. Although her life was not always easy, Kathryn worked with a dedicated group of women from Our Lady of Lourdes Church reaching out to those in need and offering services through the St. Vincent De Paul Society. She also kept her sense of humor to the end, smiling at her sister’s corny jokes on the day that she departed this life.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her loving spouse, Fred Straine, sister, Mary Ann (Merlin Iverson), brothers, Larry Johnson (Jean), Gordon Johnson (Jan), and grandson Jordan)
Kathryn is survived by her loving children Anthony Rivera-Straine (Ari), Timothy, and Matthew. Kathryn was also “Mom” to Fred Jr, Jon (Melisa), Jeff (Ann), Jessica (Wayne Hopes), and the grandchildren of all the children, Keiarra, Ethan, Aaron, Zackary, Sky, Phoenix, and Emilia. Brother John Daniel Johnson (Claire), sister Heliene Johnson Houdek (Gary) - and their children, as well as other loving nieces and nephews are also among the bereaved)
Visitation will be 12:30PM Thursday June 15, 2023 at Crownhill Cemetery - Peace Chapel
Funeral services will be held 1:30PM Thursday June 15, 2023 at Crownhill Cemetery - Peace Chapel with Father Rick Ginther of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church in Irvington, IN officiating. Burial will follow at Crownhill Cemetery next to her interred husband Fred, in the Crown Hill National Veterans Cemetery
