

Katie L. Collins was born on May 13, 1937, in Forrest, Mississippi, to the late Almeda Murray and Willie Gaston. She was the youngest daughter of ten children and was lovingly nurtured in a close-knit family rooted in faith, perseverance, and love.
Katie was known for her generous spirit and her unwavering love for Christ. She found great joy in helping others and lived her life as a reflection of God’s love, compassion, and grace. Her kindness touched all who knew her, and her legacy of service will forever be remembered.
For many years, Katie faithfully worked in dietary services prior to her retirement. In her work, as in her personal life, she served with care, diligence, and compassion. She took pride in nourishing others, a reflection of the nurturing spirit that defined her both at work and at home.
In 1996, Katie became a devoted member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served under the leadership of Pastor Reverend Carl Liggins. Her commitment to her church family and her walk with Christ were central to her life and brought her great peace and purpose.
Katie had a deep love for beauty in all its forms. She enjoyed shopping and had a special appreciation for all things dainty and beautiful. She loved flowers and found joy in their delicate elegance, much like the gentle grace she carried herself. Gifted in spirit and heart, she not only treasured thoughtful things but delighted in gifting and celebrating others. Whether through a small token, a kind word, or a meaningful gesture, Katie made those around her feel cherished and special.
Katie was a loving mother, grandmother, and matriarch whose family was the pride and joy of her life. She leaves to cherish her precious memories of her late son, Robert Gaston; one grandson Avery Mason, two granddaughters, Honey Mason and Christina Guyse; four great-grandchildren, Robert Wallace, Diahavanna Banks, Davionne Banks, and Ivory Mason; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Royceé Wallace, Raelynn Wallace, RyAirre Wallace, I’Sis Mason, I’Zaiah Mason, I’Lijah Mason, and Zendia Tate.
On February 19, 2026, Katie peacefully transitioned from this life, leaving behind a legacy rooted in faith, love, and service. Though she will be deeply missed, her gentle spirit, caring heart, and steadfast devotion to God will continue to live on through her family, her church family, and all whose lives she touched.

A visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, Gothic Chapel, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, on March 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
