Kenneth Louis Paul Sykora, 94, of Brooklyn Park, passed away on June 4, 2022, closely following the loss of his dear wife, Carol. Kenneth was a beloved father and grandfather, a devoted husband, a kind neighbor, and so much more; his death following a short illness is mourned deeply by those who knew him.
Kenneth was the third of four children born to Joseph and Emma Sykora. He attended Storden High School and graduated in 1946. Answering the call to duty, Kenneth bravely served our country during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952, with over 10 of his 21-month enlistment taking place on foreign soil. Fighting as a member of an infantry mortar squad in the 2D Infantry Division, Kenneth’s distinguished service in the Pacific included two official campaigns. He was honorably discharged following his commitment to our country.
After moving to Minneapolis, he met his wife and lifelong partner, Carol, at the Clifton Terrace Club. They found true love together, marrying on June 29, 1957. Ken and Carol would have five children: Sharon, Sue, Joe (Debby), Patty (Mike), and Greg (Julie). A wonderful and devoted father and husband, Ken always managed to combine life’s hardest lessons with unconditional support. He taught his children to be strong individuals, carefully watching and understanding the lives and difficulties of those who needed him.
Ken was a worker first, resolving to provide for his family and community while always keeping his values in order. When Ken wasn't working as a letter carrier, he enjoyed fishing, collecting video games, and spending time with his family and friends.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife Carol; daughter Sharon; sisters, Rita and Geraldine and brother, Donald. He is survived by daughters, Sue and Patty; and sons, Joe and Greg; as well as twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 8 at 10:00am with visitation starting at 10:00am until 12:00pm at the Camp Ripley Memorial Chapel 1098 Shimek Place, Little Falls, MN 56345, followed by a burial service at Noon at the Camp Ripley Veteran’s Cemetery located at 15550 MN-115, Little Falls, MN 56345.
