Kim L. Maine

Kim was born on May 24,1957, in Indianapolis as Kim L. Tillis, the second of three children, to Jerome J. Tillis and Ramell (nee Smith) Tillis. An ardent lover of slow-cooked food, Classic R&B music, leisurely road trips down South and a sturdy fishing pole on a warm summer day, Kim will be best remembered by her ability to laugh easily, to champion fiercely and to protect loyally.

With her family, she was a rebel with a heart. When her big brother, Steve, returned home from the Vietnam War bearing memories shared by so many fellow veterans, she stood with him, a bonded companion with non-conditional love. To her little sister Tracey, she let it be known early in their childhood that anyone who dared threaten her "Toot" needed to come through her to get to her little sis - a pledge that never aged with age.

And with her friends, Kim loved to play with a laugh or commiserate with a hug, through times both tense and tender. To those who knew her professionally, she was a licensed and devoted social worker, a counselor and confidant for those battling demons of addiction and need - always ready to go one hour or one step beyond to help them sleep more peacefully before she sought her own rest for a night.

Although she and her husband, Arcedis Maine, who preceded her in death, had no children of their own, they were devoted protectors together to their beloved dogs Roc and Martel. After Kim was widowed and retired, she carried on as an equally devoted "Dog Mom" to her cherished dogs Nikky and Azul.

Kim will be dearly missed and forever loved.

She is survived by her sister, Tracey Lynne (Glenn) Brown; her nephews, David Michael Tillis, Damien Lamont Tillis, Justin Jamel Tillis, James Stephen Johnson; her niece, Marren Taylor Brown; and extended family.

Visitation will be on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Crown Hill Cemetery from 10:am - 12 noon. The funeral service will begin at 12 noon on May 16, 2026, at Crown Hill Cemetery with Pastor Dervin White of Bethesda Temple officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
