Leona Gertrude Thacker

83, of Indianapolis, departed this life February 11, 2014. She was born January 23, 1931 in Fleming County, Kentucky to Leonard and Pearl Roark Saunders. She worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a computer operator for 16 years, retiring in 1988. Leona will always be remembered as the candy and pie lady by her family and friends. She was an avid reader. Leona especially loved Louise Lamon and Zane Grey novels. Leona is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, George Russell Thacker, sister Deloris. She is survived by her family that she loved so much: children Margie (Steve) Payne, Debbie Thacker, Carol (Jeff) Arsenault, Saunie Smith, George “Rusty” Thacker II, sisters Alma, Olive, Vera, Joyce, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and a host of good friends. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 23 at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in Leona’s name may be made to Eskenazi Health for Midtown Community mental health Center or to a favorite charity.
