

Lester was born in Orange County near Paoli, Indiana to Lewis and Rella Brown on April 25, 1926. He married Erelene Gilliatt in 1954, who preceded him in death after 71 years of marriage.
He is survived by his children Beth (Greg) Rominger and Brad Brown, his grandchildren, Rachel (Zach) Dougherty, Adam (Mary) Rominger, and Sarah (Jack) McGee, and his great-grandchildren Rory Rominger, Martin Dougherty, Beau Rominger, and Rella McGee.
He was a member of the New Palestine United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Indianapolis Scottish Rite and the Indianapolis Exchange Club.
Lester was a World War II veteren who served for the 96th Infantry (Deadeye Division) in the Pacific Theatre and was involved in the battles of Leyte (Phillipines) and Okinawa. He was awared two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, and his Division was awarded the Presidential Citation for their service in Okinawa.
Upon returning home he was employed by the Cornwell Corporation in Paoli and then for RCA as a cost analyst. He retired in 1988. He served two terms on the Cumberland Town Council.
He enjoyed his home and doing yard work and cherished his family and church. Lester and Erelene also enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and abroad.
Calling will be held at Crown Hill Mortuary on Friday, July 10, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. The funeral will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Charity of your choice.
