

Lexie Webster, a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home in her sleep at the age of 96. She was born to James and Iva Staples on the south side and attended George Washington Carver School #87 where she developed her love of learning. She attended Crispus Attucks, excelling in academics while pursuing a love of music, joining every ensemble the school offered and graduated with honors at the age of 16. On scholarship at Knoxville College (HBCU) in TN, she achieved excellence in academics, music and played on the women’s basketball team.
She dedicated her career to educating generations of IPS kindergarteners from 1963 to 1998, while earning her MS, Ed from IU. Together with her husband, Russell, Lexie raised a family of five children on the city’s north side in the Presbyterian faith.
At Witherspoon Church, Lexie was known in the choir for her beautiful soprano voice and over the years performed with the Indianapolis Opera, North Church Shepherds, and the Indianapolis Philharmonic and Symphonic Praise Choir.
Lexie was preceded in death by; her husband, Russell; son, Russell Ivan; sisters, Josephine and Noel; brothers, Robert and James.
She is survived by; her brother, Sylvester (Laksamee); sisters, Roberta and Lillian; her children, Bonita (Harry), Kym (Noel), Kelli and Kris; grandchildren, Asia, Nathan (Cicely) and Clifton; great-grandchildren, Lylah, Noah, Dylan and Ezra; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors and loved ones who will cherish her memory.
The family of Lexie Webster extends sincere thanks to her care team, church members, and the many friends and relatives who have offered support during this time.
A visitation for Lexie will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Crown Hill Gothic Chapel, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM.
