Lloyd Jerome Tucker was born on May 14, 1956, in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. Lloyd was the youngest of two children born to Abel John and Annie Bell Tucker, both deceased. John Tucker, Lloyd's brother, preceded him in death. Lloyd was a resident of Indianapolis for the past 44 years. He graduated from Northwest High School in 1974, and received his BA from Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs in 1978.
Upon graduating from IU, Lloyd worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). After working at HUD, he moved to the Business Opportunities System (BOS). Later, he worked for Sexton Company as a CFO, and was instrumental in developing housing communities around Indianapolis including: Lockfield Gardens, The Garden of Canal Court, Firehouse Square, Broadway Heights, and Fox Hill Estates. After working at Sexton, Lloyd created his own business, developing a community known as Fall Creek Proper. He also developed similar communities in East Chicago and Columbus. Lloyd had a tremendous love for his community, and served as a board member for various organizations including: Park Tudor School, Raphael Health Center, United Methodist Church, and Forest Manor Multi Service Center. Lloyd's last earthly employment was at Minority Business Enterprise Center.
Lloyd was baptized at an early age and lived his life as a child of God. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
On August 18, 1979, Lloyd exchanged vows with Joyce Marie Owens, who has been a loving and supportive wife for over 30 years. God blessed their union with two sons, Christopher Lloyd and Brandon Jerome. Lloyd was very proud of his sons and his nephew, Doran Moreland. He played an active role in Christopher and Brandon's academic pursuits and their respective hobbies. He coached his children's little league teams at Tabernacle Recreation, and served as a volunteer at Tab for several years thereafter.
Those remaining to cherish the memory of Lloyd are his beloved wife, Joyce Marie; two sons, Christopher Lloyd and Brandon Jerome; one sister, Lillian Moreland (brother-in-law Sandor); a devoted mother-in-law, Mary Owens; one sister-in-law, Carolyn; and a host of nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by countless family members and friends, and his champion-canine-companion Sasha.
Although Lloyd's passing was unexpected, his everyday actions showed that he dedicated his life to his family. Lloyd and Joyce are very proud of their children: Christopher graduated from law school this month and will begin working at a law firm this fall, and Brandon is continuing to pursue his dream of working in the field of sport management by recently completing his junior year of college and currently working at a coveted internship in the field. With the support of family and friends, Christopher and Brandon will strive to continue making their parents proud.
