Loran was called home to be with Jesus on April 24th, 2026 after a very brief battle with leukemia. He was born in Heltonville, Indiana in 1946 to Sylvester and Mildred Bailey. He moved to Indianapolis where he worked for RCA for several years, after going to school to be an Electrician. He then hired on as a Plant Electrician for Eli Lilly where he worked for many, many years, until retiring in 2008. He met his first love, Effie, at RCA in 1968. They were married for 20 years when she passed away in 1988 of cancer. 5 years later he met his second love, Sheryl, with whom he would be celebrating 33 years of marriage this August.
Loran was a Godly man and was loved so deeply by friends and family. He enjoyed feeding his squirrels and watching them every day. He looked forward to church every Sunday where he could be found bright and early working around the church and starting coffee to prepare for those about to arrive! He enjoyed greeting people walking through the door of church and was known for his smile and loving demeanor. He enjoyed his Sunday newspaper comics and Sudoku puzzles and could be found watching Colts games on tv with Sheryl every Sunday when they played. He was a country man through and through, and helped anyone, anywhere, wherever needed. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Loran was preceded in death by both of his parents, his first wife Effie, brother in law Clifford Patton, and granddaughters Callie Nicholson and Jessica Henson.
He is survived by his wife Sheryl; daughters Tanya (Mike) Revell, Tabatha (Jeff) Scales, and Trina Martinez; step-children Denise McCormick, Laura (Jeff) Deien, Gary (Marivel) Peel, and Sarah Peel; sister Karen Sue Patton; brother Lowell (Cindy) Bailey; grandchildren Joshua and Jessica Revell, Nolan Scales, Adrian and Sofia Martinez, Tyler and Trent Hopper, Brandon and Bryce Nicholson, Justin Henson, Katie McCormick, and Gary Peel Jr., as well as several great- grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to visit on Tuesday, May 12th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Feeney Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 E. 71st Street, in Indianapolis, with services immediately following. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, IN. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society.
