

Lovada graduated from State Street High School in Bowling Green, Ky in 1962. She attended Western Kentucky University for two years, pursuing her Social Worker degree. She then moved to Indianapolis, where she gave birth to Richard Kevin Merriweather on June 27, 1964. Lovada worked for the city of Indianapolis at the City County Building in the mid 60’s.
Lovada married Arthur A. Merriweather in 1967 and gave birth to Christopher A. Merriweather on September 18, 1969. Lovada returned to the workforce in the early 70’s and decided to go back to school and finish her degree. Lovada earned her Bachelor’s degree, and then her Master’s degree in 1980. Lovada worked for the Christamore House, the Flanner House, and the Indianapolis Housing Authority during the 1980’s and 90’s. Lovada has been a professor at IUPUI and Martin University.
Lovada was the 1st chapter President of the Central Indiana Association of Black Social Workers, an achievement she was very proud of.
Lovada started her business in 2001, Family Enrichment Center providing counseling and mentoring services to the community. She Later acquired another business Onix Healthcare Services. Lovada brought her son Richard into the business in 2005 to help with the demands of the business.
Lovada loved to travel and was always the life of the party. She was always planning a trip somewhere. She created a lifetime of memories with family and friends of all the trips and adventures they have shared together.
Lovada was a lifetime servant of the Lord; she was always affiliated with a church from her youth until her passing. She was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church here in Indianapolis in the 70’s and then became a member of Light Of The World Christian Church.
Lovada spent her life trying to help and serve people. It was always her goal to make people’s lives better in whatever way she could.
Lovada was the loving mother of Richard Kevin Merriweather (Deardra), and Christopher A. Merriweather, grandmother to Taylore Minatee, and Zavion R. Hutt-Merriweather. She leaves behind her two brothers, Berry D. Mills and Nathaniel Mills, to cherish her memory. Lovada was preceded in death by her parents Rueia and Lola Mills, her sisters, Erma Jean Butts and Johnnie M. Woods; and two brothers, James B. Mills and George H. Mills. She also leaves behind twelve nieces and nephews, twelve great nieces and nephews and nine great-great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a host of cousins and friends to cherish her memory.
Visitation will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, US, on July 17, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at Crown Hill Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on July 17, 2026.
