

MS. LUCILLE RUSSELL, or as family and friends affectionately called her Cille, was born November 30th, 1931 in Chattahoochee County (Box Spring), Georgia to Lila Robinson Byrd and Jerry Byrd. Lucille moved to Indianapolis, Indiana at the tender age of 15 years with three of her seven siblings. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
LUCILLE was married to Charles Monroe Russell from Pulaski, Tennessee on December 9th,1950. She had four Children: Geraldine Russell, Marcia Ann Russell, Fikree Abdul Rashid, and Judy Russell-
Martin (Harvey). Fikree and Marcia both preceded their mother in death.
LUCILLE was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School. She had a passion for life and enthusiastically
helped others anyway that she could. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing (especially making quilts,
children, and adult clothing) and gardening. But most of all she loved traveling with her daughter's
family prior to leaving this earth on April 8th, 2022, at 8 PM.
LUCILLE was a faithful member of Coppin Chapel (Cross Roads) A.M.E. church, where she sang in the
choir, as well as, participated in many church activities. Raised with a good work ethic, she worked at the
Grayland Hotel and Sam’s Subway as a waitress. Lucille spent thirty-one years at St. Vincent Hospital
in the Central Processing Department (sterilizing surgical equipment) until she retired. After retirement
and wanting to keep busy she started working as a childcare helper at Angela’s Infant Care Child
Care Home part-time with her friends Gladys King and Helen Mays. In addition, she worked as a patient
sitter at St. Vincent Hospital and in the clothing department at Value City.
LUCILLE was the family historian, she told many stories to all who would listen about various historical
family facts, living in the country with her family while growing up, the Civil Rights movement, the Depression Era and how they survived during such trying times.
LUCILLE leaves to cherish her loving memories; her only remaining sibling Eldora at 94 years young, her
two daughters Geraldine and Judy, grandchildren Zakiyyah and Danon (Geraldine), Sam, Brandy, and
Jordan (Judy and Harvey), and, Khalil, Shakur and Shaheed (Fikree and Sayidah), multiple great grandchildren, as well as, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
