

78, Indianapolis, departed this life at home on August 16, 2013. Luis was born February 25, 1935 in Topeka, KS to the late Luis and Patrocenia (Correa) Mendez, Sr. Luis proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was a former member of the VFW. He was a baker for Kroger Bakers for 39 years, retiring in 1995. Luis was a longtime and dedicated member of Christ the King Catholic Church where he served as an usher, CYO basketball and kickball coach. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Grace L. (Dowell) Mendez; his loving children, Vincent Mendez, Lori (David) Grable, Michele Mendez and Denise (Christian) Gamboa; seven grandchildren; Stephanie Neely, Karissa Grable, Cameron Mendez, Brandon Mendez, Kahla Grable, Cassidy Mendez and Mackenzie Mulkey; two great-grandchildren, Jaeden Rynard and Alonna Mendez; siblings Joker, Maryelena, Aurora, Martha, Raymond, Jesse and Christina plus many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ralph, Jesus, Brownie, Paul, Teresa, Alice, Trinidad, Roy, Gavino, Lupe and Trinidad. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 PM Friday, August 23rd at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 East 71st St., Indianapolis, IN 46220. Celebration of Christian Mass will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 24th at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 125 N. Oriental St., Indianapolis, IN 46202 followed by the United States Air Force Honor Guard Ceremony.
