Jody was born on May 22, 1937 to the late John Will Caine, Sr. and Anna Louise "Carter" Caine in Evansville, Indiana. At the young age of 17 she met the man who would soon become her husband, Melvin James Enright, to whom she was married until his death in 1965. Being a widow at such a young age, Jody did what very few women did in those days: she secured employment and bought a house for herself and her two small children. She held several jobs throughout her life including that of small business owner. She eventually landed in a position that brought special meaning to her life, that of caregiver to the elderly. She worked in several nursing homes and private residences. In 1990, Jody converted to Catholicism and accepted a position with Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House as the Executive Housekeeper where she worked until her retirement in 2002.
Jody is survived by her children: Tamara J. Deak and Alan (Mary) Enright; her sister Mary Frances Cowan, her grandchildren Anthony Deak, Caitlin and Logan Enright, her brother-in-law Danny Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, brothers John Will Caine, Jr., Maurice E. and Robert A. Caine and her sister Ruby Wills Lankford.
Special appreciation goes to the staff at Help At Home who provided care to Jody during her final years and especially Shawnika Simmons, her loving and compassionate caregiver for the past several years; Lisa Hoffman and the staff at House Calls for Seniors and Naomi Mueller and the staff of CICOA. Her family would also like to recognize the doctors and nurses at Community Hospital East who provided exceptional care to Jody in her final days.
Visitation for Jody will be Sunday, May 15, from 2:00 – 6:00 pm in Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary. Funeral services will be Monday, May 16, at 1:00 pm in the Mortuary. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children. Condolences may be offered at www.feeneyhornakshadeland.com.
