

Maggie was born in Caseyville, Mississippi to Herman and Maggie Wesley Rockingham on September 8, 1935. She graduated from Progress High School, Caseyville, MS. After graduating from Progress, she attended Prentiss Junior College, Prentiss, MS.
Upon completing Prentiss College, Maggie moved to Chicago, IL where she resided for a brief period before moving to Indianapolis, IN. Once in Indianapolis, Maggie met and married William Earl Mathis on May 4, 1957. This union was blessed with five sons.
Maggie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was baptized at Galilee AME. Church, Caseyville, MS. Once in Indianapolis, IN, she joined Providence AME Church. As a member of Providence, she served in several different organizations and boards. She was a Steward, a Torch Lighter with the Sarah Allen Missionary Society, the church secretary, Sunday School teacher, an usher and a choir member.
MaggaLee, as she was called by many of her family members, was the President of the Indianapolis Chapter of the Wesley Family Reunion for umpteen years. Moreover, Mag was a fantastic baker and cook. She had an unbelievable "green thumb".
Maggie was preceded in death by her father Herman Rockingham, her mother Maggie Lora Wesley Rockingham, her brothers Robert Rockingham, and James Rockingham.
Maggie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband William Earl Mathis, her five sons: Jeffrey (Carolyn), Michael (Donna), Kenneth (Anita), Tony (Darlene), and Travis "Tiger". Her six siblings: John H. (Juanita), Herman (Ellie) Rockingham, Juanita Graham, Almeda Lester, Henrietta Poindexter (Reginald) and Roger E. Rockingham (Brenda); 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at The Gothic Chapel in Crown Hill Cemetery. The eulogy will be from her son, Travis "Tiger" Mathis. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
