Marcia Ruth Ernst

July 2, 1941May 2, 2021

Marcia Ruth (Stanley) Ernst, 79, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 2, 2021. She was born on July 2, 1941 in Beatrice, Nebraska to the late Harold "Rex" and Geneva (Attebery) Stanley.

Marcia served with her husband as a missionary in Papua New Guinea for 40 years. She was faithful to her family and her dear Lord Jesus her entire life. She loved God's Word, and dedicated her life to teaching others to understand and obey it. Marcia was also a talented musician. She always used that God-given talent to honor Him, and to enrich many aspects of her ministry.

Marcia is survived by her loving husband, Richard Ernst Sr. of Indianapolis, IN; children, Richard (Araceli) Ernst Jr. of Orlando, FL, Jill (Mark) Billington of Quebec City and Daniel (Gwen) Ernst of Kettering, OH; grandchildren, Sam, Jack, Jake, Lydia, Noelani, Joel and Claire; and siblings, Melvin Stanley and Eldon Stanley. Marcia was preceded in passing by her parents.

A memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 10:00am until noon at First Baptist Church of Beech Grove, 5521 Churchman Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46203. A memorial service will immediately follow at noon also at the church.

If you wish to give something in her memory, we ask that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Life Centers, an organization focused on saving babies in Central Indiana from abortion. Marcia used to volunteer there. Protecting the unborn was dear to her heart, and we would be humbled if you feel led to aid the cause in her memory.

The Klopp family sends their deepest condolences. So many years, so many memories and a lifetime of a weaved family storyline between our two families. We grieve with you but NOT without hope and the image that slowly emerges as we imagine Bill, Ruth and Marcia embracing on the other side of that thin veil....God is so good. Much love mixed with tears. Becky (Klopp) Inman

There are too many memories from PNG to share, but I love this whole family so much! Aunt Marcia, I know you are basking in the joy of being present with your Savior. Uncle Rich, Rich, Jr., Jill, Dan and your families; I know your grief is palpable, but I pray that you will feel the presence of the Lord very near to comfort you during this time. Love you all! Wish I could be there to hug your necks!

Being a good friend of Dan in high school in PNG led to meeting Marcia at different school events or spending the night over at the sprawling Ernst estate with friends. What I remember of Marcia was her amazingly meek and quiet demeanor. She was very kind and whenever I saw her I would always wonder how such an amazingly gentle personality could have ever given birth to a person like Dan. I knew Jill a little and had never met Rich as I arrived in PNG in 86, so I had no other real references to base my judgements. Now as I look back I can only assume that Marcia just put on this act and was secretly a mischievous troublemaker who passed the genes on to her rambunctious, meddlesome son... I sure wish I could be with all of you to celebrate her life but will be there in spirit, rejoicing with all of you that she is at her new home, with a whole, pain-free body. Singing with the angels. Our prayers will be with all of you.

We want to let the Ernst family know that we are praying for all of you. We, of course, know Jill and Mark far better than the rest of the family, but we love you as our brothers and sisters in Jesus. We understand some of the grieving you are and will experience - and we pray that the comfort coming from your loving Father will help you keep eternity in view as you walk through this valley.

Love in the name of Jesus,
Barb and Tim Vermilyea

Sending my love and prayers to all of the family. Marcia and I were talking after my Dad passed in October about how much fun the had together when they were little.
