Margaret was born in Indianapolis and graduated from St. Agnes Academy. She attended St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a surgical nurse before her marriage.
She was beloved by her husband of 69 years, Tom, her six children, Mary (Kevin Turner dec., Bob Timma), Beth (Dave Anderson), Tim, Martha (John Dunlevy), Carol, Chris (Lisa Chiplis), and seven grandchildren, Rose, Ben, Patrick, Katie, Max, Wyatt, Haley.
Preceded in death: parents Rose McNellis and Frances B. McNamara, brother Joseph McNamara (Mary), and another much-loved daughter, Sheila (Ron).
As a child Margaret loved bicycle riding with friends around the neighborhood. As an adult she testified in court to integrate the Riviera Club.
A dedicated Democrat, she worked many elections as a committeeperson. A lifelong Catholic, she was an active and devout member of her parish, St. Thomas Aquinas. She was recognized as longest active volunteer at St. Augustine Home. She had a great sense of humor and loved yeast donuts and chocolate. Her favorite meal was breakfast. She traveled to Italy and Ireland, but the vacation she remembered most fondly was taking a train from Indianapolis to California (in 1968) with her husband Tom and six children. After Disneyland (of course!) they took a car north to the sequoia trees, then back to southern California for the train trip home.
