Obituary of Margie Lee Johnson-King
Margie Lee Lowe Johnson-King, 96, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 4, 2022. She was born on November 18, 1925 to the late J. Ray Lowe and Rosie (Elrod) Lowe in Oakland, Kentucky. Margie was proud of her Kentucky heritage, often telling of the times she worked with her dad on their farm during her childhood. She worked at Eli Lilly, Indianapolis, for 38 years. Retiring in 1990, she enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, quilting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with her husband, Sherman, who she married in 1995. Nanny, as she was called by many who loved her, was extremely devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was one of a kind and had an impact on all who knew her. Margie was preceded in death by her parents, J. Ray and Rosie (Elrod) Lowe, first husband, Wm. Ray Johnson, second husband, Sherman King, step-son, Gregory King, siblings and their husbands and wife, Marie (Thomas) Blanton, Maymie (Herschel) Roberts, Mae Rose (Buster) Johnson, Mary Katherine (Clayton) Dobbs, Henry Ford (Martine) Lowe, daughter in law, Jody Johnson, granddaughter, Lora McElwain, nephew, Glenn Johnson, and nieces, Delores Rector and Jeanette Cowles. She is survived by her beloved children, Frances (Russell) McElwain, Billy W. (Denise) Johnson, Jimmie L. Johnson, Sr., and step daughter, Candace Harcourt. Margie was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Russell Scott (Kathy, Kristin, Ryan) McElwain, Robin (Kevin, Daulton, Brayden, Landon, Camryn) McQuitty, Justin (Amy, Logan, Olivia, Ean, Ruth) McElwain, Kelly (Chris, Cory, Cyan) Long, Brian (Lisa, Brandon, Andrew, Emma) Johnson, Rachel (Stephen, Kessler, Baron) Wade, Amy (Chad, Levi, Terasa) Suter, Jimmie (Angela, Izabel, Daniel) Johnson II, Mark (Christy, Emily, Grace, Lucas) Johnson, Lindsey (Grace) Powell, Amy (Jack, Eddie, Madison) Harcourt, Beth (Hunter) Harcourt. Margie also had several great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews whom she adored. She left behind a legacy of love that will never be forgotten. Visitation will be on Monday, May 9, 2022, at Little and Sons Funeral Home, 4901 E. Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis, IN, 46237, from 11 am - noon, with the service immediately following. Burial will take place at Orchard Hill Cemetery, Wanamaker, Indiana, 46239. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
