Marilyn June (Rothermel) Hunter, 95, passed away peacefully on February 15th, 2025. A life-long resident of Indianapolis, Marilyn was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a woman of many talents. Known as Tootsie by her closest family, she was a gifted singer, pianist, artist, and animal lover, sharing her creativity and passion with those around her.
She is survived by her three children, Heidi Jo (George Hasara) Hunter, of Franklin, North Carolina; Beverly Susan and husband Mike Fulford, of Indianapolis; and Robert R. Hunter, of Lafayette, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Nicholas, Donald, Joshua, Amanda, Benjamin, Megan, Alexis and Grace, and 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patricia Hunter Gibson of Auburn, Alabama, nieces and nephews, who will all cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Douglas Hunter, and her parents, Erwin Earl Rothermel and Lillian Louise Blumburg Rothermel.
Marilyn graduated from Shortridge High School in 1948. Later that year, she would marry Don, the love of her life. Marilyn and Don adored their nephews and nieces, purchasing them as many loud toys as they could afford, only to be blessed with three children who surpassed any decibel level an instrument could produce. She lavished love and attention on her three children, any lost pets and lonesome neighbors to the exclusion of the rest of the world. She never apologized for spoiling her children, frequently repeating how each one was a miracle. Her passion was her family, who will forever miss her ability to make every holiday, magical, and will fondly remember the impromptu choral arrangements she directed from the front seat of the family car.
Marilyn’s family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the caring nursing staff at Southpointe Healthcare Center and Gentiva Hospice.
A visitation will be held Monday, February 24, 2025 at Little and Sons Funeral Home: 4901 E. Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis IN from 11am to 1pm. A service to honor Marilyn’s life will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by interment at Crown Hill Cemetery: 700 38th St, Indianapolis, IN 46208.
