Maripat Berry, 89, died unexpectedly on February 16, 2022. Maripat was born in 1932 and lovingly raised by Mary & John Wall in Beverly of Chicago, IL with her four dear brothers, John, Pete, Ed & Kevin.
She graduated from St Barnabas, Longwood Academy, and Mount Mary College. Her Catholic faith meant a great deal to her, and she was also The Great Communicator for her extended families. Maripat married N. Thomas Berry Jr., the love of her life, at St Barnabas and spent 64 years of marriage with her husband, raising their children in faith and running the household.
They moved to Indianapolis in ’63 and enjoyed the city as it and her family matured. The five children, their spouses, and 12 grandchildren were a great joy to her: Tim (Mary), Tom (Kathy), Brigid (Jay Robinson), Michael (Stephanie) and Patrick (Shannon); Brigid’s Luke, Brian, Matt (Courtney) & Jay D Robinson, Tom’s Meghan, Kelly & Conor, Michael’s Keegan & Brock, and Patrick’s Finn, Aidan & Nora.
Maripat was past president of the Pleasant Run Children’s Home Aux, loved ‘part time’ at Killybegs Irish Shop and gave tours of the Central Library. She thoroughly enjoyed friends, keeping pace with and in touch by modern communications with many from high school, college, neighbors, and hockey.
Summer weekends at Grandview Lake were for friends and family to enjoy being together. The Berry Patch at Man O War Cay, Abaco, Bahamas was a special place to reconnect with God’s creation of simple beauty for 47 years.
Maripat was particularly proud of her Irish heritage; obtained her Irish Citizenship and passport, was an active member of Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, St Pius X Parish, the Grandview Yacht Club, White River Yacht Club, Hillcrest CC and Dinner Club. She loved traveling with Tom to every US state, Canada, Polynesia, Japan, and Europe making repeated trips to Ireland in particular. She taught school in Chicago a few years before having children. She decorated for every season, especially Christmas and St Patrick’s Day. In Maripat’s memory, do a kindness for someone. Slainte!
A wake for Maripat will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 11am-1pm at St Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive in Indianapolis, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 1pm.
