Mark was born on March 10, 1948 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was raised in a family home growing up with his brothers, Michael and Rodger, and his cousins, the Bradleys. He spent most of his life in Indianapolis before moving to Jeffersonville in 1997. Mark was predeceased by his parents, Curtis Lee and Garvey Helen Crowe, brothers, all his aunts and uncles, and his son Marlon.
When Mark was really young, he ran with a lot of the neighborhood kids. He kept those friends his entire life and loved getting together with them even after moving to Jeffersonville.
Mark and Karon Hale-Pruitt met at Winona Hospital in Indianapolis in the late 70’s. They were married on May 14, 1980. Mark was a long-term thinker, and he immediately began organizing their lives, making sure they made wise decisions towards building their future. He retired from Winona Memorial Hospital after 20 years of service in the Shipping and Receiving department.
Markie (Mark Jr) said he remembers his dad would always say, "We're not just father and son, we're also friends” and because of that I raised my kids the same way. When I was really young I remember him telling his friends, if they saw me out in the streets somewhere to bring me home. It was his way of trying to get out in front of what could happen.
Daughter Melonie remembers when I was pregnant with my son Juston that my dad was so happy. He never missed a doctor's appointment, bought me all my favorite foods. It was the first time I ate Whiting, my favorite fish to this day. He told me I sure hope you have a boy and I did; I gave him a grandson.
Mark will be missed also by his grandchildren, MaLisa, Juston, Jonae, Taj, Sena, Nile, niece Resa and his great grandchildren.
Mark was known for his deep love of family and friends, his passion for jazz and love of dogs. He enjoyed reading but for the last several years he would watch various news channels – especially after our current president was elected. He kept up with everything politically that was going on.
He dearly loved his family and was there for all of them in the good times, and whenever life circumstances challenged them. Mark sincerely believed in a merciful God, and silently said his prayers every night for his family and loved ones.
