

Marla was the third of five children. She attended Horace Mann Elementary School.
When the family relocated to Indianapolis, IN in 1966, she and her siblings attended Indianapolis Public Schools. In July 1968, the family moved to Washington Township where she attended Grandview Elementary and was very active in the Girl Scouts.
She was promoted to Westlane Junior High and subsequently graduated from North Central High School in 1976. Marla was employed with IPS and most recently with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department as a Public Assistance Officer and Missing Persons for 19 years.
Marla was a fun loving, hardworking mother. She loved music, dancing, roller skating in her youth, visiting museums, shopping, traveling to the Great Smoky Mountains, sewing, and spending time with family and close friends. She was an excellent baker and was known for her cookies, biscuits and making her maternal grandmother’s famous yeast rolls during holidays.
Marla passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 with her two children and three of eleven grandchildren by her side.
Her father, LeMar W. Barnett, Sr., brothers Phillip, Wilson Kevin, and LeMar W. Barnett, Jr., preceded her in death.
Marla leaves to cherish her memory: son, Teon D. Roberson; daughter Gemayla Barnett Mozee; mother, Katie J. Motley-Barnett; brother Derrick Barnett; eight grand daughters: Chaeleigh Roberson, Harriet Watson, Rayanne Webber, Shanice Johnston, Kyuus Roberson, Zoe Roberson, Brooklyn Roberson and Amiyah Barnett; three grandsons: Xander Roberson, Teon Roberson Jr., and Antjuan Mozee; one great-grandson, Ky Roberson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will have a private memorial to celebrate Marla’s life.
