She was adopted by Danny and Kathy Blackburn along with several other Haitian children.
Through the difficulties of living with Cerebral Palsy, Mary never lost the loving, kind, generous, grateful, forgiving spirt God placed in her.
She always had a smile on her face, and open arms for a hug at the ready. Queen Mary bestowed said hugs and smiles on Friends, Family and Strangers alike.
Mary attended God’s Grace Community Church faithfully and was always ready just in case she was able to get a ride to church or attend another Blackburn Family function.
Mary took it upon herself to call her sister Adwoa every Saturday to line up her ride for church the next day. More than anything, Mary loved being included in our lives.
She showered love on our kids, celebrated at weddings and graduations and mourned with us when one was taken too soon.
At Birthday and Christmas parties, Mary danced with joy like no one was watching. The exuberance and simplicity with which Mary lived her life permeated the choices she made. When asked what she wanted for Christmas, her answer was a watch, shoes, clothes, nail polish and jewelry. For Mary, the more colorful, sparkly and fun, the better. The boots she chose this Christmas were rainbow colored. Clearly, Mary loved color.
Mary resided at Rescare, where she participated in dances, played Bingo, and helped in the house. If she heard a staff member or one of the other residents coughing or not feeling well, she would lay hands on them and pray.
Mary always had a thank you on her lips for both the small and large things she received.
The graceful way she lived her life was cut short on December 13th 2021, when God called her Home.
Mary was preceded in death by Papa(Charles), Jim Bob, Caleb, Grandma(Doris), Mom(Kathy) and Mark.
She is survived by her dad Danny and siblings CB, Scott, Rose, Yvonne, Thoma, Sam, Rebekah, Cheryl, Bobby, Jojo, Steve, Adgie, Elizabeth, Benji, Abigail, Jake, Jemima, Jeremiah, Gideon, Aaron, Noah, Matthew, Rachael, Thaddeus, Mikey, and Andrew; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
As Jill would say, “Mary, Dance with the Angels and Rejoice with the Saints.” We love you always and forever. Rest in Heaven.
Service for "Queen Mary" will be held, 12:00 pm, Saturday, January 8, 2022, at God's Grace Community Church, 9425 E. 30th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, with visitation held from 11:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm, all taken place at the Church.
