Mary Ellen Boone

Mary Ellen Harris-Cooke-Boone, age 89, passed away on July 22nd, 2023. She was the daughter of Mildred Craig Cage and Robert Harris. Mary was born December 21, 1933 and was a member of Bethel AME Church where she sang in the choir. She attended public schools and graduated from Crispus Attucks in the Class of 1952. She was employed at L.S. Ayres, R.C.A., and Railroad Men Savings Bank, where she was one the first ever Black Tellers. She retired from Eli Lilly where she worked from January 1973 until December 1993. Her family was one of the first to move into LockeField Gardens.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as brothers Robert Lee Harris Jr and Reginald Oliver Harris Sr., and nephews Robert Gregory Harris and Ernest Harris. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Garland Boone Jr., stepdaughter Deborah Ann Lewis, sister Barbara Ann (Harris) Guthrie, and brother Thomas Harris. She is also survived by her nieces Angela (Guthrie) Hankinson, Cristy (Guthrie) Sodders, Erika Guthrie, Lisa Harris Williams, Tommika Harris, Doshia Harris, and Karen Harris as well as nephews Kevin Harris, and Reginald Harris Jr and a host of great nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Saturday, August 12th from 10:00AM-12:00PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life to follow at 12:00PM. Entombment will immediately follow the service.
