Mary C. Charlton

Mary Cee Blue Charlton was born in Scooba, MS on Friday, June 3, 1932, the 6th child of Harvey and Mary Bell (Nicholson) Blue. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings, Wyonia Blue Byrd, Alvin “Tunk” Blue, Thomas Blue, Dave Vee Blue Smith and Otis Blue. Mary confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was educated in the East St. Louis School District. In seeking greater opportunities, she moved from East St. Louis to Fort Wayne, Indiana. There, she met and married the love of her life, E.A. Charlton and to this union, Dionne Josette was born. E.A. preceded Mary in death. Mary worked as a Nursing Assistant with St. Joseph’s Hospital in Fort Wayne and later, a laborer at General Electric Factory in Fort Wayne, Indiana. While in Fort Wayne, Mary united with Pilgrim Baptist Church where she served as a Children’s Sunday School Teacher and with the culinary committee by baking cakes for each funeral she attended and working in the church’s kitchen. Later, upon moving to Indianapolis, Indiana with her daughter, Mary united with Light of the World Christian Church. Her favorite song was “May the Work that I’ve done, Speak for me.” Mary’s joys were socializing, baking and her grandchildren, Lila and Brayden. She loved those babies and would have done anything for them. She often stated they added years to her life. On Monday, May 16, 2022, Mary was called to her Eternal Home to rest in the arms of The Creator. She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved children, Dionne (Derek) Robinson of Indianapolis, Indiana; Kim Charlton (David) Morris of London, England. Her beloved grandchildren, Lila and Brayden Robinson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Peggy Orr of East St. Louis, Illinois; brother, Lundy (Lena) Blue of East St. Louis, Illinois; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
