Obituary of Mary Bridget Moriarty-Adams
Mary B. Moriarty Adams died September 6th 2018 at St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove, Indiana. Mary was born in her mother’s home town of Conneaut, Ohio on August 17th, 1954. She was the first welcomed daughter to Patrick and Margaret Moriarty. Patrick, who survives, met Margaret when he arrived in the port of Conneaut, Ohio hailing from County Kerry, Ireland. Patrick had been hospitalized in the small town’s Brown Memorial Hospital, where Margaret worked. Mary was preceded in birth by her older brother Denis (Antje) Moriarty of Santa Monica, CA. Her younger siblings include Michael of Indpls, Patrick (deceased), John (Lori Ann) of Carmel IN, Brian of Indpls, Therese (Dave) Brandon of Beech Grove IN, Thomas of Indpls and Rev. Joseph B. Moriarty of Indpls. To her parents and siblings Mary was a responsible, helpful and loving daughter and sister. From an early age Mary embraced her Irish/Catholic heritage through years of Irish Step Dancing and her participation in The Ladies of The Ancient Order of Hibernians as well as her frequent trips to Ireland throughout her lifetime. Mary was a graduate of Little Flower Catholic Grade School and Our Lady of Grace High School. She began to show an affinity for politics and a need to serve others early in her life. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from IUPUI while working in various capacities for the state of Indiana. Mary loved local politics and was elected as a pro-life Democrat to The City-County Council of Indianapolis in 1987. Mary made an indelible mark in the city through her collaboration and dialogue with both Democrats and Republicans as they worked for the common good of the city’s citizens. During her twenty-eight year span on the city council Mary earned her Master’s Degree and married her husband of 24 years, Frank Adams who retired from the Indianapolis Police Department and is now employed with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department. A beloved wife, daughter, sister and aunt, Mary found a lifetime of joy and reward by doing for others in her immediate family. She particularly enjoyed supporting her ten nieces and nephews including her godson, Timothy Moriarty who shares Mary’s love of politics and service as well as Hannah and Conor Moriarty for whom Mary worked to support in their upbringing. Mary was Aunt B to all ten nieces and nephews also including Timothy, Kristian, Katie, Andrew, Ryan, Elizabeth Moriarty and Eamonn and Caitlin (Byczko). Mary B. Moriarty Adams succeeded in every challenge she undertook. She worked hard to make life better for others and was successful in politics, family and friendship because she found joy in life and serving others. May she rest in peace. Visitation will take place at Little Flower Catholic Church 4720 E. 13th St. from 4-8pm on Friday September 14th. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Saturday September 15th at Little Flower Catholic Church with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
