Mary Jo (Ahern) Ruffin, 75, passed away peacefully at her home on April 30, 2021. She was born April 19, 1946 in Indianapolis, to Joseph Ahern and Mary (Goins) Ahern.
She married Gerald Ruffin on February 19, 1966 in Indianapolis. They were married for 43 years when he passed in 2009. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Starr Hamel of Boca Raton, Florida, Audra and Gordon Mills of Ladoga and Jeri Cruz of Atlanta, Georgia. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, Lindsay (Hamel) and Eric Duffield and son James Irwin, Lacey Hamel and Ryan Wall and son Logan Wall, Victoria (Mills) and Kyle Cline, Madison (Mills) and Sam Shaver and Kobe Cruz.
Mary Jo was the oldest of 8 children. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary, a sister, Barbara Thompson and a brother, Duane Ahern. Surviving are 3 sisters and 2 brothers, Debbie Arbuckle, Denise Godwin (Daryl Sexton), Dawn (Chip) Lee, Joe (Candy) Ahern, Karl (Marion) Ahern. She leaves behind 29 nieces and nephews, 46 great nieces and nephews, 27 great-great nieces and nephews. There are an additional 20-30 in-laws and a circle of dear friends too numerous to name.
Mary Jo was a life-long resident of Indianapolis. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She loved golf, bowling and playing cards. She also enjoyed traveling.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 7, 2021 from 3 to 8 pm at Family Funeral Care, 5791 Rockville Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46224. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 3-5:30 pm. A funeral dinner will be served at 5:30 at Whitesville Christian Church, 3603 S. Ladoga Rd., Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
