Melissa, or “Mel” as she was often lovingly referred to, was born on April 10, 1982 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada to parents Alan and Rolla Richards (Price). Melissa graduated from Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville, FL in 2000. She lived and worked in Jacksonville Florida until 2015. From there she moved to Texas, worked a few years there and her final move was to Indianapolis.
Melissa was a devoted friend. She had an incredible ability to make people feel valued and cherished. She touched the lives of many with her genuine nature, forming relationships that were built on trust, support, and unwavering loyalty. Fiercely independent, Melissa lived life on her own terms, forging her path with confidence and strength. She faced challenges with resilience and determination. Melissa undoubtedly made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Melissa is survived by her parents, Alan and Rolla Richards, Grandmother Rubena Price (Murray), brother, Timothy Richards, sister-in-law, Rebekah Richards, niece and nephew, Lillian and Carter Richards, and so many friends who, to her, were family.
Melissa is preceded in death by Sherman and Olive Richards (Paternal Grandparents), Stanley Price (Maternal Grandfather), Russell Price (Uncle), and David and Donna Richards (Uncle and Aunt).
A celebration to honor Melissa’s life will be held on December 9, 2023 in the Linder Lounge at First United Methodist Church, located at 2111 Camino Del Rio S, San Diego, CA, 92108 from 12pm-3pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Montreat Fund. Melissa’s family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated ICU team at IU Health University Hospital for their exceptional care and unwavering support during Melissa’s stay. Their tireless efforts, expertise, and kindness brought comfort to all during this time and did not go unnoticed.
May Melissa rest in peace knowing that the impact she made on the lives of others will endure for generations to come.
