She was a member of Greater Morning Star MBC. Melvia worked as a tax preparer for 30 years for the Indiana Department of Revenue.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, William H. Sargent, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, children, Deryl D. Swanigan, Sr.(Dafney), Kevin L. Sargent, Sr., William D. Sargent, Sr.(Carla), William H. Sargent Jr., Brian L. Sargent, Sr., Detona L. Sargent, Billie Grice, Tonya Sargent-Williams, Yvette Sargent and LaToya Sanford; three sisters, Muriel J. Berry, Regina Blakey and Paula J. Berry and a host of grand and great grandchildren, family and friends.
Her visitation will take place at Greater Morning Star MBC, 519 E. 23rd Street on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 10am to Noon, with the Homegoing Celebration at Noon. The burial will immediately follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
