Obituary of Michael Paul O'Brien
Michael (Mike) Paul O'Brien, 72, passed away suddenly on February 16, 2021. Mike was born on December 20, 1948 in Baraboo, Wisconsin to the late Paul Francis O'Brien and Elizabeth Anne McCoy. He graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1967. He proudly served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany, a location that allowed him to enjoy sightseeing trips around Europe. He worked for Indiana Farm Bureau Indiana Grain Division, Titan Homes as a company sales representative, North American Insurance Agency Corp, P&M Utility Locating, and Lowes. Mike loved sports and was an avid Green Bay Packers backer, Colts, and Pacers fan, and enjoyed watching any college football or basketball game. He enjoyed target shooting, photography, a good political argument, watching the squirrels spin on his 'squirrel-a-twirl', and getting together with family for any event, especially holidays. One of Mike's defining characteristics was a tendency to be unhurried - he never showed up on time, never was ready to go when being picked up, took his time when shopping or strolling around an event. At times, it could be frustrating waiting for him, but maybe he had the right idea; just slow down and enjoy the moment. Not a bad way to look at things. Mike had a soft spot for dogs, especially his current friend ‘Charley’ a large, goofy black lab that he loved. They both enjoyed daily walks through Broad Ripple Park, in any kind of weather, throwing and retrieving tennis balls, and just being together. Mike was a good brother, friend and neighbor. He was the first to help anyone in need. He will be sorely missed. Mike was preceded in death by his sister Lynn, sister-in-law Cathy O’Brien, and great niece Gracie Lynn (Sheila and Bobby) Roberts. He is survived by his siblings: Pat (Patty) O’Brien, Jeff (Mary) O’Brien, Kathy (Dirk) Vermeeren, Steve O’Brien, Jim (Kelly) O’Brien and Bill. He has several nieces and nephews that will sorely miss him, along with his dear friend Becky Deere. Please consider a memorial contribution to the Indianapolis Humane Society. A celebration of Mike’s life will take place at a later date. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.feeneyhornakkeystone.com for the O'Brien family.
