Donald Nicholas Myers, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2016 with his loving family at his side. He was born March 16, 1939 in Indianapolis, to Elmon N. and Lois L. Myers. Donald had a love for God, and was a lifelong member of Trinity CME Church.
It was because of Donald’s love for nature, his love for motors and heavy-duty equipment, as well as his desire to work outdoors in all kinds of weather that led him to seek a career encompassing these elements. With this in mind, he purchased his first piece of heavy-duty equipment---a bulldozer---and became self-employed as Myers Bulldozing Services for the next 20 years. Following this successful endeavor, Donald ventured out again, but this time in partnership with his brother, Louis Myers, to form Myers and Myers Residential and Commercial Asphalt Paving Company. Thus, with other pieces of heavy-duty equipment, his business was further enhanced for the next 25 years. Finally, upon his retirement from asphalt paving, Donald then decided to start his own lawn service and snow removal business. As you can see, Donald was always busy with some kind of business endeavor.
Unbeknownst to many, Donald was also a classical music enthusiast. Listening to composers such as Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and Debussy brought him much relaxation at the end of long, busy days.
On November 19, 1960, Donald married Ruth J. Busch, (“Ruthie Babe”), the love of his life. It was a marriage that lasted only a few days short of their 56th wedding anniversary. It was a union that produced two beautiful daughters. Donald and Ruth were a devoted pair--one seldom being seen in public without the other. But it was during Donald’s prolonged illness that the true depth of their devotion to each other really became visible. It was also during this period that the “in sickness and in health” portion of their wedding vows truly came into play. For throughout his illness, Ruth remained at his bedside day-in and day-out---arriving at the hospital and/or nursing home at 5:30 a.m. and remaining for the better part of each day for over a year-leaving only long enough to get a few hours of sleep. This was, indeed, a remarkable marriage! Indeed, a remarkable couple!
Donald leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Ruth J. Busch Myers, and his two lovely daughters, Dana Myers Brooks (Kevin) of Dallas, Texas, and Valerie Myers Stovall (Alphonso) of Indianapolis. He is also survived by his four grandchildren--Kyle Marissa Brooks, Kenneth Michael Brooks, Kameron Maurice Brooks, and Austin Nicholas Stovall. In addition, survivors include his father, Elmon N. Myers, sister, Elinor “Suggie” Myers-Nelson (James); and brother, Louis G. Myers (Charlotte). Also to mourn his loss, he leaves a host of relatives and friends.
The visitation is Saturday, November 19, 2016, 9am - 11am, with the Homegoing Service commencing promptly at 11am at Trinity C.M.E. Church. The entombment will immediately follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
