Robert Warner Grissom passed away peacefully on Father's Day, Sunday June 19, 2016. He was born to Weir and Beatrice Grissom on July 14, 1929 in Indianapolis, IN. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Katherine and Ellinor, his wife Lenora, and his son, Richard. Bob is survived by his sister Helen, his sons, Robert, III (Jeanette), Bradford (Sandy) (Eugenia), Patrick (Dr. Pamela) and his daughter Denise. Cherishing his memory are his children and in-law's, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grand children, 2 great-great grandchildren, and 3 generations of nieces and nephews. Bob was blessed in his last weeks at Robin Run Health Care by a constant stream of visitors: family, friends and neighbors. His caregivers from Robin Run and St. Vincent Hospice were excellent.
Bob Grissom graduated from Crispus Attucks High School and was employed by National Starch and Chemical Corporation as an industrial instrument repair technician until his retirement. He was a long term member of Light of the World Christian Church, where he and Lenora served as Deacons. He loved his entire extended family and his church. He was a friend to a host of people and his friends cheerfully and lovingly returned that friendship.
Bob Grissom had three passions that occupied his spare time: music, the card game bridge, reading, and serving others. The home of his life-long friends Albert and Lether Burkes was a frequent base for jazz gigs in Chicago. He played, directed and taught ABA Contract Bridge where he forged long-term friendships with Charles Williams and the bridge community. His passion for reading was the foundation of his wisdom that rivaled any PhD. Saint Sam and Beverly Johnson, Elder Bill Vance and the Diaconate of LWCC are but a few that will testify to Bob's service to people.
Robert Warner Grissom will be deeply missed.
