Kenneth A. Halcomb, age 78, ended his journey through this life on December 24, 2011. He was born on December 28, 1932 to the late Oscar and Mary (King) Halcomb. In 1996, he retired after over 40 years in the accounting field. Ken spent his professional life working for Indianapolis based manufacturing firms and appreciated the experience of working in Portland, Oregon and Toronto, Canada. He was very proud of his military service in the United States Air Force and was based in Austin, Texas. He was a member of the American Legion, the Ancient Order of the Scottish Rite, Shriners International and the Brookside Masonic Lodge.
Ken is survived by his wife and partner, Linda. Their love of art and travel took them around the world. They shared volunteer service at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and for the Watercolor Society of Indiana where they donated their time and talent to Outreach activities for the Dayspring Shelter for the Homeless.
Their love of dogs made their home a haven for abandoned, sick or abused animals. These animals enriched his later years.
Additional survivors include Ken's daughter Lynn (Phil) Galligan and grandchildren Stephen, Andrew and Katie, sisters Marilyn Pettijohn, Jean Ormsby, Joan Bohlinger and Nancy Benn (Marvin). Older siblings Darrin (Bud) and Phyllis Pappas preceded him in death. He is also survived by three step-daughters, Christie Haywood, Heather Marshall and Kim Botzum (Mark), and their children and grandchildren.
A private Memorial Service is being planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Museum of Art or the St. Vincent's Hospice.
