Merrell was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 14, 1925, the son of the late Wayman and Macey Haynes. He was a machinist at Ford Motor Company. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 2nd Class in WW II. He was the husband of Rosetta E. Haynes. Merrell is survived by a step daughter, Angela Brewer of Indianapolis, IN.; two step sons Joe Louis Brewer, Jr of Indianapolis, IN., Manolito Brewer of Indianapolis, IN. He is also survived by Dortez Henry, Angelica Henry, Elizabeth, Clorissa and Joe Louis Brewer III, Bryce, Serenity and Eli Brewer, Marguerite Primus and Anna Mae Haynes.
