Lt. Comdr. John Wesley Lee 85, passed away Friday, September 18, 2009. He was the first African American commissioned officer in the United States Navy. After retirement he worked for Naval Avionics. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah A. Fleary of Lithonia, Ga. and Cheryl A. Manning (Rickey) of Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Betty Alstock (Walt); 4 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. His wife, Geraldine and son, John Wesley Lee, III preceded him in death.
