Born on December 19,1915 to Lena Lawson-Jackson and Walter Jackson Sr. in Brooksville, Mississippi. Allie was the first of ten children born to this union. Although both of her parents preceded her in death; losing her mom at an early age, Allie took on the responsibility of caring for her siblings.
Allie B. Sykes united in Holy Matrimony to Square Sykes Sr. on January 17, 1935. Eleven children were born from this union. This marriage lasted 65 years until her husband's death in June 2000. In December of 1969 when most of their children had grown up and moved North, they too departed Mississippi and relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana where they resided permanently. Allie planted her spiritual roots at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a dedicated usher and faithful member as she lived her life knowing and trusting in Christ. She retired from Winona Memorial Hospital in 1985 after fifteen years of service never missing a day, leaving over 1000 hours of unused paid time.
Allie enjoyed gardening and watching the Chicago Cubs play baseball. She is known for cooking great meals, baking pies and rolls from scratch for everyone she came in contact with.
