

Nellie attended Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from Indianapolis Crispus Attucks High School in 1947.
Nellie was a dedicated employee of the U.S. Postal Service for over 35 years, retiring as a shift supervisor. At the time this was a rarity for an African American female to reach this level.
She loved to play bridge with close friends and was a member of the Indiana Bridge Unit - Indianapolis Chapter. Nellie was very talented with a needle and thread and was well known for her many quilts. She was also an experienced calligrapher. She loved to watch sports and her daily soaps on TV.
She was a faithful member of Witherspoon Presbyterian Church and then a charter member of Covenant Community Church both in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a faithful member of the Adult Bible Study and Women's Bible Study groups and the church seniors group called "Primetimers". For Primetimers' meetings she frequently provided her secret recipe potato salad, baked spaghetti, and zucchini bread. Folks made sure to show up on time because the late arrivers would be out of luck and would miss out on her delicious fare. She also loved to assist with fellowship after church service.
Nellie entered into holy matrimony with Garnett George Rhim in 1966, to which 1 child, Richard Anthony Rhim was born.
Nellie was preceded in death by 6 brothers; Richard Edwards, Hugh Bass Jr., George Bass, Frank Bass, Robert Bass, and John Howard Bass.
Nellie departed this life on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the age of Eighty-eight years, seven months and three days. She leaves to cherish her memory: Brother Henry Joseph Bass, special niece Regina Strong, and son Richard Anthony Rhim; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
