

Nettie was educated in the Jackson-Madison County School system and graduated from East High High-School. She completed her formal education at Tennessee State University.
On March 14, 1964 Nettie was united in marriage to James Willie Boone. To this union was born two daughters. She was a former employee at DFAS (Defense Finance and Accounting Service) for many years and retired. She also was a key punch operator and a faculty member at Clark College of Indianapolis.
Sister Nettie loved the Lord and was a deeply spiritual servant of Christ. She and her family were members of St John, A.M.E. Church for many years. Nettie served in many organizations of the church especially social programs. She was the director of the YPD for many years. Nettie spent her last years as a member of New Era Church. She enjoyed visiting the sick and shut-in even as her health started to decline. She loved working with the youth in afterschool programs. She was academically inclined and the young people believed in her. Her motto was "the sky is the limit!" She also served her community diligently, working with the Black Expo and the Martingdale-Brightwood Neighborhood Association.
Nettie had a loving and caring nature. She always eager to listen and share ideas with other. Her culinary expertise well know and she was always willing to share her delectable dishes. Family was important to her, she advocated learning to the extent she attended her youngest daughter's graduation in a wheelchair on May 5, 2018 at University of Indianapolis. Also, this past August she was able to travel to Tennessee and celebrated with her mom on her 94th birthday.
On Sunday September 23, 2018 she departed this life at age 73.
She leaves to cherish her memories her mother Mattie L. Cathey Hamlett, her husband James Willie Boone, her two daughters Antoinette Giesell Boone Graves and Kerri Lyndell Boone, her two grandchildren India Giesell Graves and Morgan Jamal Boone, her brothers James Willie Tomlinson "Pete", Larry WayneTomlinson (Sheila), and Terry Bernard Cathey. Two brothers preceded her in death, William Cathey Tomlinson "Mickey" (Francis), and Kenneth Paul Tomlinson. And a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
