Nira spent her childhood in Vaiden, Mississippi and later relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana with her family.
As a young lady, Nira met the love of her life Nelson Roosevelt McCloud, and their first date took place at the Walker Theatre. They listened to music and danced the night away. This day grew into a marriage that lasted their lifetime. Nelson described Nira as a devoted wife, mother and a quintessential woman. The two were elated to raise their children Marvin, LaVerne, Tonya, Wilhelmina and Yolanda. They would later welcome a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nira was the matriarch of her family. She was a caretaker and devoted herself to the well-being of her loved ones. If someone needed a place to stay, they could go to Nira’s house. If someone needed a warm meal, they could go to Nira’s house. If someone needed advice, solicited or unsolicited, they could go to Nira’s house.
Nira was willing to help anyone in their time of need. She was also blessed to be surrounded by caring and kind family, friends and neighbors.
Nira could be found cooking meals for her husband, visiting him during every hospital stay and praying with and for him. Nira could be found taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching them as their parents worked, cooking for them, driving them to and from school and attending all of their activities.
Nira’s unconditional love for her family was evident by her daily devotion to them. She loved her family and cared for her family in spite of her physical limitations.
As a young woman, Nira confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior. After Nira accepted Christ, she attended church, read her bible and prayed daily. Nira lived a long life and is now at peace because she knew that to be absent from the body meant to be present with the Lord.
Mrs. Nira LaVerne McCloud departed this life on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the age of ninety.
A visitation for Nira will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM.
